Easter is coming up fast!  So far we only have one family, a couple, actually.  We have sponsored their youngest kid, but they have since moved out.  Since our focus is on women and teens, we still help out the mother at the holidays.
Got a bit off track...

We have some items left over from our Christmas Baskets, so our Easter donation requests will be very short, if at all, this year.  =)  So thankful to our donors in 2016 for all of their help!

Today I had to go to Renton to pick up an 'Ambassador bag' for some upcoming high school job fairs.  It made me think of our floundering little trades program and all the things I wish I could do with it.

One thing I've always wanted to do is to s...

I was looking at the Gofundme site just now, planning on setting up the fundraiser so we can start moving towards our 501(c)(3) status.  But after looking at their fees, I'm having second thoughts about going that route.  Between Gofundme and WePay, the site they use to process the payments, a total of 7.9% + $0.30 is taken out for each donation.

Using our own website and Paypal, we reduce those fees to about 3%.  Trouble is, I'm not sure if we would reach as many potential donors.  I created a webpage, so I think we're gonna try going that route and see what comes of it.  We can always set up a Gofundme account in a bit if donations aren't coming in thru the website.  =)

2016 Summary

2016 is almost over, and 2017 will be here before we know it.  We had a bit of a rough year, but it has forced me to re-think our direction and take action.

Our first bump in the road came at Easter.  We didn't receive a single donation, and I was about to switch companies and couldn't contribute, either.  It was discouraging, to say the least.  I've known for a while that we can't keep depending on friends to support all of our donation needs...I just haven't been able to take action on a different plan yet.  It's kinda frustrating to be stuck in a rut like we have been.

The Summer Lunch Program wasn't a hit like it was the first 2 years.  All of the kids we have sponsored before are gone.  Most of the new kids are teens who di...

We were able to serve 3 families this Thanksgiving!  Not pictured above were 3 10lb bags of potatoes that I still had in my trunk. =)

Donations came in very quickly after I posted, which of course got me all excited to re-tackle some of our fundraising issues.  I noticed that our last optional registration with the Charities division of the the Secretary of State had not gone through, so I started to do some digging.  Turned out that since we were no longer legally considered a Non-Profit Corporation, we were required to file for a new EIN under our new organizational classification as an Unorganized Association.  We are still a charitable organization, just not an incorporated one. Corporations require a board of directors, which we used to...

I need some help brainstorming. We need to seek out more channels for soliciting donations, but I've hit walls so far in each direction I've tried. We are a tax-exempt charity. However, we do not have the 501(c) status that major corporations require in order to donate to us. We are automatically exempt due to the fact that, as a whole, we bring in less than $5000 a year. But this means we don't have that special status that opens up so many doors that have been closed to us since the beginning. We can get it...but last time I checked it was $400. I simply don't have it yet.

We didn't get a single donation for Easter. That's never happened before. I haven't posted about it yet on Facebook because I’m not sure what to do next. The summer is c...
